I know the title will make you remind about the famous show but it actually happened in my life. This can be a story for you but for me, it was a life-changing decision that helped me to have a beautiful life & a wonderful complete family. Maybe you will enjoy, maybe you will not. Maybe you will learn a lesson from it maybe you will make fun. After all, it’s your perspective. But I hope I can motivate at least 2% of readers reading it. Here I go…

Kids do you’ll want to know your parent’s love story?

I will definitely not start by “Once upon a time…. Hehehe.”  This is one of the episodes of my life which took the leap of faith & turned me out to be a Sober person by quitting alcohol.  I used to sing & love music from childhood days. As I started growing, I enjoyed music a lot. Be it Indian, be it any English song or any other language. I can actually feel the tune in my heart & start humming.

Later, I heard somewhere in my college days that if you drink alcohol almost more than 50%, the voice then changes & becomes more soothing to ears. Just to more famous & to gather more appreciation from everybody I started consuming alcohol.  No sooner than being promoted to the next semester, I became an addict. The thing which I loved the most was not music now. It was replaced by Alcohol. Drinking & parties were my everyday routine. From not going home for many days to failing in each subject. I faced all the bad consequences of being an addict.  Nobody had any hopes remaining from me. I can’t even remember when I was in my senses & when not.

After 3 months of being a top addict, a beautiful girl joined my class.  All the boys were flattered but I had no interest in talking to her or seeing her as alcohol was my life now. Days passed by and now auditions for college fest started. While I was having my morning quota I heard my favorite song “Chukar mere Mann ko Diya tune kya ishara”. I grew up listening & singing to this song as this was my mom’s favorite song. It seemed that voice pulled me. I was so numb I actually felt somebody is calling me. I began to increase my speed & took big steps to reach to that voice. After reaching the auditorium all I could see was a girl in blue jeans & pink top with long hair holding a mike and singing with all her heart. I was totally mesmerized by her voice. But she disappeared soon. Again on the next day, I heard the same voice but I also heard people bullying her. I ran and came forward to see & what I saw was totally shocking. Till now I was thinking that may she was the girl on which the whole college was flattered as I heard from my classmates. But no !! she was that beautiful girl’s friend. A more beautiful girl with a burnt face, yes you guessed it right. She was an acid attack victim. I shouted at those boys who were bullying her & made her comfortable.

Slowly, we became friends & she insisted me to start singing again. I can still remember that day when we first sang our duet song “Groom hai kisike pyar me.”  By singing and standing beside her I used to get lost rather than fly in an other planet. The best part was I was “Me” with her. But no sooner she came to know about my drinking addiction & suggested me to stop drinking. To change your old habit in a day is not possible, but with all her love and care I took my first step towards quitting alcohol.  I made a healthy daily routine.  I Started:

  • My day with Yoga
  • Eat Healthy & nourishing food
  • Preventing my old habits which can lead to relapse
  • Tracked my daily developments

Steadily I turned into a clean boy with her standing by my side. I realized that I can do, achieve anything if she was with me. By now we have sung approx. 38 songs together & won many trophies for our college. Without wasting any time I asked her to marry me & she said no because she thought that I deserved somebody much beautiful than her. After many failed attempts I was able to convince her for marriage. And you know what she said?

Yes, kids yes!! Your mom & I had a struggling past but today we both are equally happy to have each other around. So now we have our small house, 2 kids & plenty of duet songs sung together….
